Group

wpf has an established group therapy service, known for its professional excellence for over 20 years.

Therapy groups at wpf have up to eight members. They meet regularly with a therapist  for one and a half hours each week.  Within the therapy group personal issues can be explored in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality.

How does Group Therapy work?

A group session has no fixed agenda. The  members are encouraged to raise their concerns or any issues that are on their minds and to respond to others openly and honestly. As trust develops it becomes possible to explore more deeply the way  each member relates to others in the group and how these group relationships resemble relationships in the outside world.

Group therapy can help in recognising and  understanding recurring patterns of behaviour and in changing inappropriate modes of relating, first within the group and then with others in the working and personal environment.

Groups at wpf are run on psychodynamic lines, drawing on the insights of psychoanalysis as a way of understanding human relationships. Group therapy is a long-term therapy and group members are asked to make a commitment to attending group sessions for at least a year.

Confidentiality

wpf provides a confidential setting. You are free to talk safely, without fear of rejection, criticism or blame. No information will be disclosed to anyone outside wpf without client's written permission, except under certain, rare legal circumstances (e.g. Child Protection).
All group members commit themselves to maintain mutual confidentiality; this means that whatever is discussed in the group stays within the group.

Good Practice

All our counsellors and psychotherapists work to professional Codes of Ethics and Practice. Copies of these codes and our complaint procedures are available on request.
We have an Access to Records policy and comply with the Data Protection Act. We are committed to an intercultural approach and to equal opportunities.
wpf is a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited Service and is a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.

The Benefits

The mutual sharing of concerns with others in a group benefits you in a number of ways:

Difficulties can be clarified through discussion with others.

You are likely to gain encouragement and hope from the discovery that other members of the group are struggling with similar issues and are making progress with them.

You can express the pent-up feelings which surround your problems in an accepting atmosphere.

Your self-esteem can improve as you find that you can be helpful to, and appreciated by, others in the group.

The opportunity to speak seriously with other people and to give and receive honest feedback can improve your capacity for more fulfilling personal relationships and reduce feelings of isolation and difference.

Within the group you have the opportunity to work on aspects of your behaviour and ways of relating in the “here and now”.

The Cost

wpf is a charity committed to providing affordable services. We therefore operate a sliding scale of fees. We try to set a fee that takes into account your financial circumstances, whilst contributing towards the cost of our services. The fees are discussed annually.

Group fees are paid monthly, in advance.

The following guidelines will help to determine how much you will pay:
• The fee is calculated according to £4 for every £1,000 of your annual income (e.g. income £20,000  fee  £80 per month)
• The minimum fee of £55 per month if you have no income other  than benefits or are on a low wage.
