Local charity on the lookout for wannabe London Marathon runners to run London 10k race
Kensington charity wpf Counselling & Psychotherapy has a dozen guaranteed places for the London 10k race available for local runners who can raise a minimum of £300 for the charity in sponsorship. The 10km race takes place on Sunday 1 July 2007, running through the heart of London on roads closed to traffic before finishing at Whitehall.
“Each year the London Marathon inspires people to lengthen their stride and aim for the big race,” said wpf Counselling & Psychotherapy chief executive, Lesley Murdin.
“But we know from those who have run the Marathon for us that it’s all about preparation, training and building up stamina. We have guaranteed places available for both the London 10k race and next year’s London Marathon so Kensington runners can experience the thrill of a big race, start preparing for next year’s Marathon and raise money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.”
wpf Counselling & Psychotherapy is hoping to raise over £3,000 to help it meet the costs of counselling and psychotherapy services for those who desperately need them but cannot afford to pay. The largest charitable provider of counselling and psychotherapy in England, wpf has approximately 200 qualified therapists and therapists in training working at its Kensington base, providing one-to-one short-term (12 weeks) or ongoing counselling through to more intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy, as well as group therapy.
The London 10k race starts just up the road from Kensington at Hyde Park Corner and continues through the centre of London up Piccadilly, Pall Mall and the Embankment, passing St Paul’s Cathedral en route before crossing Westminster Bridge and finishing in Whitehall. Runners will have music from live bands and DJs to inspire them to keep up a rhythm up as they pound the streets. Last year’s winner finished the course in under 30 minutes. Everyone has their own reason for running and for some the atmosphere and the achievement of finishing is enough.
