Course description
•
Seminars
There are three years of seminars on psychoanalytic theory
and clinical concepts which take place on Thursday afternoons,
1.00pm - 4.30pm. These cover the essential ideas of Freud, Jung,
Klein, object relations theory and contemporary critiques.
Students are encouraged to think for themselves and relate
ideas to clinical practice. The course seeks to raise
questions about issues in theory and technique so that trainees can
develop their personal approach in working psychoanalytically.
• Clinical
Work
Students are required to see two training patients three
times per week, one person for two years and one person for
eighteen months. Depending on your geographical location we
hope to find training patients for you through WPF Therapy's own
Clinical Service.
• Infant
Observation
Trainees observe a mother and baby from the baby's birth up
to a year and bring their observations to a seminar to learn
about development and the processes and dynamics of being an
observer.
• Psychiatric
Placement
Trainees are required to spend one afternoon a week over a
period of six months in a psychiatric ward, attending ward rounds
and observing the work of the staff in any way possible. It is not
a working placement but an observational one.
•
Assessment
Trainees are asked to complete five assessments in the WPF
Therapy Clinical Service under supervision. Assessment is a vital
part of any psychotherapist's work and we aim to help trainees
to learn to think through the needs, options and possibilities for
each person they assess.
