WPF Therapy Assessment

A WPF Therapy Assessment is a 90 minute process in which a trained therapist will invite you to talk and ask you some questions to understand what is troubling you. This conversation will enable  the therapist to consider with you the way your problems are affecting you and discuss ways forward. They will discuss with you whether talking therapy is best suited to your needs and if so what kind of therapy will  be likely to be most helpful.

If our conclusion is that talking therapy is not suitable for you,  we will  let you know and will make a recommendation of what is best suited for your specific needs.

CBT

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at WPF Therapy is a short-term therapy - between 6-12 weekly sessions - for those experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Each session lasts 50 minutes.

Working together with a CBT practitioner you will identify thinking patterns which may be contributing to emotional distress and troubling behaviour. You are then helped to develop new ways of thinking which can have a positive effect on your mood and behaviour.

CBT has been found to be helpful for issues such as anxiety, depression, work or exam stress, health anxiety, lack of assertiveness, panic attacks, phobias and procrastination For CBT to be successful you will need to be motivated to work with CBT, interested in finding 'tools' to correct ways of thinking and willing to do 'homework' - such as a thought diary - between sessions.

Short-term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Short-term or time-limited psychodynamic psychotherapy is a focused therapy taking place over up to 12 sessions.

With your therapist you will initially agree a specific goal to work towards with subsequent weekly one-to-one sessions each lasting for 50 minutes.

The sessions provide an opportunity to explore your problem in depth with the therapist in a non-judgmental way, gain a better self-understanding and work to bring about a desired change. Focused therapy can be particularly helpful when experiencing problems such as relationship difficulties, bereavement, redundancy, traumatic incidents, stress, anxiety, bullying and harassment and poor performance at work.

Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy

A once-weekly one-to-one ongoing therapy, with each session lasting 50 minutes.

The regular sessions provide an opportunity to explore recurring patterns of behaviour and relationships which may also be repeated in the consulting room. The counsellor or therapist will enable the client to look at these without fear of judgement, rejection or retaliation.

The psychodynamic approach at WPF Therapy recognises that problems and distress in the present may behave originated in early experiences and that understanding this is the first step towards achieving changed in perception, awareness and relationships. It can be particularly helpful for people experiencing problems with low self-esteem, relationships, anxiety or depression.

Group Therapy

At group therapy sessions up to eight members of a group meet weekly for 90 minutes together with a trained group conductor or facilitator.

Sessions have no fixed agenda and members are encouraged to raise any concerns or issues on their mind.

Group therapy helps people to explore how they relate to others within the group and how these relationships mirror those outside. It can be particularly helpful in understanding recurring patterns of behaviour and relationships.

Some people find particular encouragement from talking to others who are tackling similar problems. Group therapy sessions can also be helpful after an initial period of one-to-one counselling.

Group therapy is a long-term approach and clients are asked to make a minimum commitment of one year and maintain confidentiality on discussions within the group.

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

A long-term therapy where a client and therapist meet two or three times each week over a minimum of two years

It is an intensive approach, suitable for those who are interested in in-depth self-exploration and understanding.

WPF Therapy clients will be seen by a practitioner who is a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and is undergoing further training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Waiting times can vary as we aim to find a therapist for you within travelling distance.

Please note that sessions take place in the therapist’s private consulting rooms, not necessarily at WPF Therapy premises.
