Many older people suffer loss, are isolated and become
depressed. WPF Therapy's Life Histories groups provide effective
support, with measured outcomes showing reduced depression and the
enthusiastic endorsement of participants. We are grateful to
Wandsworth PCT for a new grant which will sustain this important
work through 2011/12.
Also in 2011, WPF Therapy's Postgraduate Diploma in
Psychodynamic Theory and Practice received accreditation by the
British Psychoanalytic Council as a once weekly psychotherapy
training. This is very good news for us, a real accolade for the
depth and quality of the training that this course provides.
In April, we pulled off our best ever London Marathon, with 13
brilliant runners averaging more than £1700 each in
sponsorship. If you would like to run for us in the April 2012
London Marathon - or if you know someone who is looking for a
Marathon place - please get in touch with claire.umar@wpf.org.uk and
spread the word. Take a look at
some of the photos from the 2011 event >
And in January, Paul Burstow, Health Minister with
responsibility for mental health, agreed to provide the keynote
speech at the Sutton Counselling (a WPF Therapy National Network
Centre) Annual General Meeting. Paul had some very positive things
to say about the importance of voluntary sector organisations like
ours in improving the nation's psychological well-being. As
the MP for Sutton, Paul is familiar with the excellent service
provided by Sutton Counselling.
